Will there be no Head of State in Iran end of 2026?

Today, Iran has already survived the assassination of its Supreme Leader — the event most analysts considered the single most destabilizing thing that could happen to the Islamic Republic — and the regime's institutional machinery produced a successor without publicly fracturing. That's the most important data point for this contract. The Islamic Republic was explicitly engineered to prevent power vacuums. The constitution mandates the Assembly of Experts select a new Supreme Leader in the shortest possible time. An interim leadership council holds authority during transitions. These aren't theoretical provisions — they've now been tested under the worst possible conditions and functioned. Mojtaba Khamenei was selected, and reporting indicates his office is participating in key decisions even while he remains largely out of public view. For "No Head of State" to resolve YES, that entire apparatus has to fail simultaneously. Not weaken — fail. No individual can be identifiably exercising effective control over the armed forces, executive ministries, and core state infrastructure at the same moment on December 31. That requires fragmentation so complete that the IRGC, the Assembly of Experts, the presidency, and the clerical establishment all either collapse or deadlock without any single faction establishing dominance. Revolutionary states do occasionally fragment that completely — but typically after military defeat, economic collapse, and prolonged civil conflict operating simultaneously over years, not months. The 4% isn't irrational. Iran is under unprecedented external pressure, economic strangulation, and internal legitimacy strain. Those conditions create fragmentation risk that genuinely exists. Bottom line: The regime just demonstrated it can absorb a decapitation strike and produce a successor. That's the bear case for this contract in a single sentence.
