That framing matters for the contract: if Iran's behavior during the ceasefire is strategic positioning rather than de-escalation, the probability of a material breach before July 31 is considerably higher than a surface reading of "ceasefire in place" would suggest. The June 7 Iranian missile barrage against northern Israel — the first direct strike since the April ceasefire — makes the fragility concrete rather than theoretical. Iranian military spokesman Zolfaghari publicly warned Israel of "setbacks" for any retaliation, framing the launch as a signal, not an accident. Trump's decision to extend the ceasefire "indefinitely" has not produced a verifiable halt to attacks. This contract is ultimately a seven-week bet on whether all parties find it more useful to maintain the fiction of a ceasefire than to blow it up entirely — a political calculus that has held so far, but with diminishing margin for error.
