Russia's defense ministry declared this village liberated in mid-February, and the market didn't actually pay out YES until five months and four straight NO resolutions later. This is not Pokrovsk. That single distinction determined how traders read the entire market, and it's the mistake that cost anyone who bought early on headline momentum. Pokrovka is a small border village in Sumy Oblast's Krasnopillia hromada, a road-junction settlement hundreds of kilometers from the Donetsk battles that made Pokrovsk itself a household name in this conflict. Russian forces crossed into the area from Belgorod Oblast in early February, and Moscow's Ministry of Defense claimed liberation within roughly two weeks, crediting a specific motorized rifle brigade. The structural lesson here is about resolution-source discipline, not battlefield reality. DeepState's tracking map showed the area shaded as occupied territory well before the market's first resolution date, and expanded that shaded zone nearly fivefold within weeks. None of that mattered for settlement. The market resolved exclusively off ISW's assessed-control map, and ISW's infiltration layer, covering exactly the kind of contested-but-not-consolidated presence Russia held through the spring, explicitly doesn't qualify as a YES trigger. That gap between what DeepState showed, what Russia claimed, and what ISW was willing to certify as actual control produced four consecutive NO settlements while the underlying military situation had arguably already tipped Russia's way by most other measures. The case for treating this as a durable lesson rather than a one-off quirk is that it reflects a structural feature of how these battlefield-resolution markets work generally: political announcements and faster-moving trackers consistently lead the resolution source by weeks or months, and traders pricing off the wrong signal source pay for that gap directly. YES/NO shares pay out according to the July 31 and December 31 settlements. The broader question these markets now raise is whether other active Ukraine-territory contracts carry the same DeepState-versus-ISW timing gap that just cost early Pokrovka traders five months of mispriced conviction.
