A move to $800 or lower is treated as a meaningful but clearly minority probability, sitting in the mid-teens range. The market isn't saying ETH is safe; it's saying the distance between a bad year and an $800 handle requires something beyond an ordinary bear cycle. The $800 level carries specific historical weight. ETH last traded there in mid-2020, before the DeFi explosion and the institutional adoption cycle that followed. Getting back to that level from the current range would require erasing years of ecosystem development, liquidity depth, and structural demand — either through a macro environment severe enough to flush risk assets broadly, or through an Ethereum-specific event that undermines the network's value proposition directly. Neither is implausible in isolation; their conjunction with a single calendar year is what the mid-teens probability reflects. The cross-market consistency reinforces the distribution. Kalshi-style markets on the same downside thresholds have produced nearly identical relative probabilities — "below $1,500" at roughly four times the probability of "below $1,000," and "below $1,000" at roughly one and a half times the probability of "below $800." When independent venues with different participant pools converge on the same ladder shape, the distribution is probably right.
